DAY TRIP TO VASHON ISLAND & TACOMA

Vashon Island, the largest island in Puget Sound south of Admiralty Inlet

It is such an amazing place to get away for the day! Only accessible by ferry or boat, it’s close to the city, known for its slower pace, amazing beaches, and epic farmland.

In the morning, hop on the Fauntleroy ferry to Vashon Island. Grab delicious coffee from Caffe Vino Olio for your day ahead, then walk across the street to the Vashon Bookshop.

Once you’ve found a good new read, either drive or walk down to Vashon Snapdragon for some of the most delicious baked goods. They have a lovely back patio and are all vegetarian (meat lovers … we promise you’ll like it). If you’re not hungry, just grab some pastries to go and continue on your journey!

After filling up on coffee and food, drive south to the Point Robinson Lighthouse. Park in the top lot and take a short hike down to the water for beautiful views.

Continue south, and board the Tahlequah Ferry to Point Defiance. Yes … you’re taking two different ferry routes today!

There’s lots to do in Tacoma. We recommend checking out Point Defiance or Ruston Way, then heading to Field Bar Tacoma to grab a bottle of wine for later. Field Bar is a bottle shop with delicious natural wines and will be a cozy bar post-pandemic. You can either drop in or book a tasting on their website.

If you’re into records, walk down the street to Hi Voltage Records to peruse their epic library.

We’re sure you’re getting hungry, so make your way to Indo Street Eatery. They have wildly delicious Thai street food. You can’t go wrong here!

Finish your day by walking to Stadium High School, where 10 Things I Hate About You was filmed. You may even be able to catch a beautiful sunset from there.

Now for the drive home! We will say … if you’d like to spend a night on Vashon, then head to Tacoma the next day we highly recommend The Lodges on Vashon.
